Becoming a Son/Daughter of God - being saved from ones sins (Mosiah 3-5)
Children of Christ - Spiritually Begotten - King Benjamin's speach from the tower
Last week we concentrated on the first part of King Benjamin's speach concerning his son Mosiah and the peoples responsibility to accept him as their king and obey him like they had King Benjamin. There is an interesting correlation king Benjamin had concerning obedience to their king (Mosiah) and obedience to God (Mosiah 2:33-41). God speaks to the people through Mosiah and they should accept him as their king and the spokesman of God to them. (Mosiah 2:30-31) Today I wish to focus on the next portion of his speach... that given to him directly from an angel and the principles and doctrines contained therein.
Before we begin... lets talk a bit about Diamonds :)
Attention Activity:
What determines the worth of a diamond?
Is the worth of something based solely upon the characteristics of that item? What of an heirloom? Does it have more value? Why?
The worth of an Item is more than its physical characteristics - its history, as well as capacity in the future can determine what its true worth is.
Moses 1:39 This is my work and my glory - immortality and eternal life of man
Section 18:10-16 Worth of souls is great in sight of God, Lord suffered for all, that they might repent, great joy in those that repent
Section 76:50-55 - ressurection of the Just - baptized, keep commandments, cleansed from all sins, overcome by faith, sealed unto life eternal
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world ... everlasting life, Son sent not to condemn the world but to save it.
An angel appeared to him and told him these things
Mosiah 3:1-4 Angel woke him up and told him these
Jesus Christ shall dwell in a body and heal many people
3:5 The Lord shall come down and dwell in tabernacle of clay - go among men
Healing sick, raising dead, causing lame to walk, blind see, curing all
3:6 Cast out devils - evil spirits in hearts of men
He shall atone for the sins of the men
3:7 Suffer temptations, pain of body, hunger thirst, more than man can suffer
Blood cometh from every poor - anguish for sin
3:8 He shall be called Jesus Christ - son of God - Father of heaven and earth
His mother shall be called Mary
3:9 He cometh that salvation might come unto children of men - through faith
They shall crucify him
3:10 He shall rise the third day from the dead - righteous judgement come upon men
There are requirements for receipt of a remission of their sins
3:11-12 His blood atoneth for the sins of those through adams transgression
Not knowing will of god
12 Wo unto him who knoweth and rebelleth against God
13
The Law of Moses Given unto men Mosiah 3:14-19
3:14 His people were stiffnecked - so Law of Moses appointed
3:15 Law of Moses has many types and shadows - pointing to his atonement
3:16
3:17
3:18
3:19
The Knowledge of a Savor will spread throughout every nation tongue and people Mosiah 3:20-27
3:20-21 None will be blameless that know of a savor - save little children
3:22
3:23-24 I have told you - and stand blameless before you - they are a witness
3:25-27 Every man is either evil/good by their own choices - judgment is just
The atonement does not atone for the sins of the World...
(Those who willfully rebell against God)
Mosiah 4:1-3
They fell to the earth - have mercy and apply the atoning blood of Christ - they were filled with Joy!
Mosiah 4:5-10
trust in God, keep dommandments - until the end of the life of mortal body is saved. None else.
Mosiah 5:1-5
We believe all the words and we have changed no longer desire to do evil - enter covenant with God to do his will and obey his commandments until we die. So we don't bring upon ourselves a never ending torment as has been spoken.
What does it mean to be Spiritually Begotten? (Spiritually generated, created, formed, changed, etc.)
Mosiah 5:13-15
Does a man take an ass and keep him? and let him feed in among his own flocks? Just so - anyone not of the name of Christ will be cast out.
Be steadfast - immovable, abounding in good works - that Christ shall seal you his and gain eternal life!
In the end for each of us there will come a time when it is our turn to stand before God and be judged of our thoughts, intents, actions and deeds. Then is the time when the lord will make of us his Jewels. We shall be transformed before him through the power of the ressurection, and atain unto the celestial kingdom. Then will the triumph of the atonement of Jesus Christ be plain before our eyes and all men. Then shall every knee bow and every tongue confess that it is through Jesus Christ and him alone that an individual can be saved.
Just like a diamond we are more than just our characteristics. The Lord loves us and understands our capacites/weaknesses and will like a diamond cut/shape us to be the best we can be. Although none of us are perfect, through the grace of God and the atonement of Jesus Christ we really can become a just man/woman made perfect through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It really is a reality that we can become a join-heir with Jesus Christ and his atonement is powerful enough for us to be exhalted and receive as he has received.
Each of the following scriptures plainly teach the capability of man to receive what Jesus Christ has received.. thus becoming like him.
3 Nephi 24:17-18 When I shall make up my jewels I will spare them and then shall ye discern between the rigtheous and the wicked
Section 76:22-24 This is the testimony last of all that we give of him - that he lives and it is through him that the inhabitants are begotten sons and daughters unto God
Section 76:50-55,69-70 Received testimony of Jesus, believed on his name, baptized in his burial, obeyed commandments, cleansed from sin, overcame by faith, sealed by Holy Ghost, Just men made perfect through Christs atonement.
Moroni 10:32-33 Come unto christ and be perfected in him, deny yourselves of all ungodliness, love God with all your might, mind and strength. Then is his grace sufficient for you, by his grace, you may be perfected in Christ and sanctified by the blood of Christ unto a remission of all your sins, holy without spot!
