Samuel the Lamanite - the comming of Jesus Christ
Repent and Retun
Have you ever tried to teach someone something and they just won't hear you out, or even consider your opinion?
How does that make you feel?
Hel 11:24-27
Attention Activity:
Have you ever tried to teach someone something and they just won't hear you out, or even consider your opinion?
How does that make you feel?
Background:
Hel 11:24-27
Group of dissenters of Nephites - and real descendants of Laman stirred up to anger
They did commit murder, and plunder then retreat to mountains
receiving daily addition to their numbers
Exceeding great band - searched out plans of Gadianton - and became robbers
They made great Havoc among the people
They did commit murder, and plunder then retreat to mountains
receiving daily addition to their numbers
Exceeding great band - searched out plans of Gadianton - and became robbers
They made great Havoc among the people
Robbers increased defied armies of Nephites and Lamanites
great fear to come into the land
great destructions - kill many and take many captive - women and children
great fear to come into the land
great destructions - kill many and take many captive - women and children
Hel 12:1-6 Thus we see the weakness and wickedness of men
2 During their times of prosperity - that is when they trample him under their feet!
3 If he doesn't chasten them - they will not remember him
4 How foolish are men - set their hearts on the vain things of the world.
5 How quick to be lifted up by pride - and not walk in wisdom's paths
3 If he doesn't chasten them - they will not remember him
4 How foolish are men - set their hearts on the vain things of the world.
5 How quick to be lifted up by pride - and not walk in wisdom's paths
Mormon then gives a prime example of this - Samuel the Lamanite - preaching to the Nephites!
Does anyone else see the irony and sarcasm in this story - a Lamanite teaching the Nephites!
At this time the Nephites remain in wickedness but the Lamanites are strictly obeying the commandments of God.
Samuel a Lamanite came into the land of Zarahemla - began to preach
After many days they cast him out - he was about to leave
Voice of the Lord came unto him - retun and prophecy whatever should enter his heart
They would not allow him to enter the city - he climbs upon the wall
Stretched forth his hand with loud voice - prophecied whatever should come his heart
Points of Samuels speach from the wall.
#1 You will be destroyed in four hundred years
Hel 13:5-6 The sword of Justice hangs over this people - nothing will save them but repentance
Hel 13:8-10 In four hundred years you will be utterly destroyed
8 I will take my word from them
I will withdraw my spirit from them
I will suffer them no longer - and their brotheren shall tun against them
9 four hundred years and they will be visited with faimine and pestilence
10 there shall be those of 4th generation that shall see your utter destruction
I will withdraw my spirit from them
I will suffer them no longer - and their brotheren shall tun against them
9 four hundred years and they will be visited with faimine and pestilence
10 there shall be those of 4th generation that shall see your utter destruction
Four hundred years is a long time from now... can you see why they might mock him about this?
Do we consider things far in the future/past as not important?
How can seperation in time cause us to be less interested in the event?
12 the more part of you will harden your hearts against me
13 If it weren't for the righteous you would even now be destroyed by fire
14 but for righteous sake you are saved
13 If it weren't for the righteous you would even now be destroyed by fire
14 but for righteous sake you are saved
Why do you think the prophets use the word ripening when discussing peoples transgression and falling away?
Are we ripening in iniquity as a nation/church/family or individual?
"Even this nation will be on the verge of crumbling to pieces and tumbling to the ground, and when the Constitution is upon the brink of ruin, this people will be the Staff upon which the Nation shall lean, and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction." (Joseph Smith Papers, LDS Church Historical Archives, Box 1, March 10, 1844.)
Ensign June 1976 - I have a question
#3 Accept Iniquity as good, rise up in the pride of your hearts, reject the good
Hel 13:24-29
24 cast out the prophets and mock them, and stone them and slay them
25 If our days had been in the days of our father - we would have believed them
26 you are worse than they - false prophet tells us we are wrong!
27 give money, and fame, and wealth to those that say there is nothing wrong here!
28 lift him up and give him money, and clothes - because he flattereth you
29 o ye wicked and perferse generation - how long will he suffer you!
Do we say this as well some times - if only we would have lived when Jesus lived etc?
Do we support those that teach evil is good and good is evil?
17 a curse will come upon the land - because of wickedness
18-19 whosoever hides up treasures will lose them save for the righteous
20 when they flee from their enemies and hide their treasures they shall be lost
21 you are cursed because of your riches - because you set your heart upon them
22 you do not remember God in the day he blessed you but rather act in boasting and pride
23 For this cause you have been cursed becuse of your iniquities
18-19 whosoever hides up treasures will lose them save for the righteous
20 when they flee from their enemies and hide their treasures they shall be lost
21 you are cursed because of your riches - because you set your heart upon them
22 you do not remember God in the day he blessed you but rather act in boasting and pride
23 For this cause you have been cursed becuse of your iniquities
31 The time cometh that he curseth your riches - they become slippery
32 you shall cry to lord in vain - your destruction is made sure
34 we lay a tool here and tomorrow it is gone - swords taken from us in day we seek them
35 they have slipped from us becuase of the curse of the land
32 you shall cry to lord in vain - your destruction is made sure
34 we lay a tool here and tomorrow it is gone - swords taken from us in day we seek them
35 they have slipped from us becuase of the curse of the land
Hel 13:37
We are surrounded by demons - yeah we are encircled abut by the angels of him who sought to destroy our souls
!38 your days of probation are past - ye have procrastinated the day of your salvation
You have sought for happiness in doing iniquity - which is contray to the nature of happiness!
Do people seek for happiness in iniquity in our day?
Alma 41:10-11 Wickedness never was happiness
What is true happiness - why do they seek it in wickedness?
The Prophet Joseph Smith said, “Happiness is the object and design of our existence; and will be the end thereof, if we pursue the path that leads to it; and this path is virtue, uprightness, faithfulness, holiness, and keeping all the commandments of God”

What is this curse he is talking about? Where can we lean about what it was and how it occured?
This curse is a combination of theivery, robbery, stealth, witchcraft, sorcery, and the evil art allowing an individual to steal items from each other. It is through oath, covenant with the evil one in accordance with witchcraft and sorcerty that allowed and facilitated the evil that was occuring. The practitioner would be given information, and or help to allow them to steal, murder and get away with it they call this "the great secret".
See the following references for additional information concening this.

Ensign 1974 - what the scriptures say about witchcraft, sorcery, magic and the power of the evil one
Do we have this in our midst today? Are their individuals among us in our country who are in secret combinations?
Are we at the level they were - that we can't even put a tool down and have it still be there tomorrow?
Will it get this way? we can hope not!

30 And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free.
31 He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, and he hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death; and ye can do good and be restored unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.
