Your Daily Atonement:
Today I want to talk about the atonement and how it can make a difference in our lives daily.
  1. Before we can talk about Repentance we need to understand sin
    1. What is sin?
      1.  James 4:17  Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
      2. Specifically things that God wants us to do but we specifically choose not to do them
    2. We all commit sins every day
      1. Yelling at your parents, siblings
      2. Lying to get out of trouble
      3. Teasing your siblings
      4. Not obeying parents when they ask you to do something
      5. Not reading scriptures, praying daily
    3. Every sin has a consequence and a penalty that affects us daily
      1. Consequence – results of sins upon ourselves and others
        1. Yelling at sister – Sister is mad at you and relationship weakened
        2. Lying to get out of trouble – you have to continue to lie…
        3. Trust is lost when lie is found out
      2. Penalty – result that comes because of withdrawal of spirit
        1. Spirit of lord withdraws from you – less influence
        2. You justify yourself that your sister deserves it
        3. You begin to not feel guilty for your actions
    4. Through repentance we can often remove the penalties and consequences
 
  1. Repentance
    1. Steps of repentance
      1. Recognize what we have done
        1. Understand yelling at sister, lying is wrong
      2. Godly Sorry
        1. Sincere remorse for what we did and its consequences
      3. Forsake
        1. Truly strive to not make the same mistake again
      4. Confession
        1. Confess to person you hurt, yelled at, lied to
      5. Restitution
        1. If you lied tell them the truth, if you yelled at them tell them why and that your sorry
      6. Forgive others
        1. Forgive others including yourself for making a mistake
 
  1. How will this make a difference In your life daily
    1. The spirit and its influence will be more in your life
      1. You will have a greater desire to do what is right
      2. You will receive revelation as to how to become even stronger
      3. You will begin to not focus on yourself but others and how to help them
    2. Relationships with your family and friends will be improved
      1. Admitting ones mistakes never causes another to feel mad at you
      2. Trying to not repeat our mistakes will help us show were making an effort
    3. Your heavenly father will be happy with you
      1. He will use you to strengthen others
      2. Others around you may begin to repent after seeing how you do it
      3. You will be happier

    1. How you have felt when truly repenting of your sins.
    2. How it has helped your relationship with others
